Wacken Open Air oder auch kurz und knapp W:O:A, seit 20 Jahren das Metalereignis in Deutschland. So sind auch wir schon seit elf Jahren ein Mitglied der Festivalgemeinde und haben in dem vergangenen Jahrzehnt einmal im Jahr unser Campingequipment gepackt, um der Pilgerschar zu folgen. Aber damals war es in gewisser Weise entspannter, konnte man doch bequem noch am ersten Festivaltag anreisen. In der heutigen Zeit entschließt man sich besser eine Woche des Jahresurlaubs zu investieren und schon am Dienstag vor dem eigentlichen Festivalbeginn anzureisen. Aber somit hat man das Privileg erstanden eine ganze Woche dem Flair von Norddeutschland zu erliegen und Festivalatmosphäre zu schnuppern.
"20 years louder than hell" lautete somit in diesem Jahr das Motto des größten Heavy Metal Festivals der Welt. Und es wurde seinem Motto gerecht, reisten doch über 70.000 Metalfans in das nur 1800 Einwohner zählende Dorf Wacken.
Auch wir reisten in diesem Jahr wieder am Wochenbeginn an, um vor unserem Umzug in den V.I.P Campingbereich ein wenig von dem gemeinsamen Flair der Metalfamilie mitzuerleben. Und um die Zeit zu nutzen einen Schlachtplan zu entwerfen, bezüglich der Bands, die auf unserer privaten Runningorder stehen sollten. Das Angebot in diesem Jahr mehr als nach meinem Geschmack. So gaben sich doch Bands wie ( Gamma Ray, Nevermore, Hammerfall, Motörhead, Heaven & Hell, Doro, In Flames, Amon Amarth, Testament, Axel Rudi Pell und nicht zu vergessen Running Wild and many more ) sprichwörtlich die Klinke in die Hand. Mit anderen Worten...es versprachen lange Tage auf der Festivalarea zu werden.
Doch bevor wir uns entspannt in das Festivalgetümmel stürzen konnten, um einem musikalischen Hochgenuss nach dem anderen zu frönen, hatten wir am Mittwoch noch die Aufgabe bei hochsommerlichen Temperaturen unsere Akkreditierungen gegen die Backstagepässe einzutauschen, was bei mehr als hochsommerlichen Temperaturen ein harter Weg war, der aber mit dem entsprechenden Vorrat an gut gekühlten Bierdosen dann doch entspannend verlief. So ist es immer wieder faszinierend zu sehen wie sich das gesamte Dorf aktiv an dem Festival beteiligt. Kaum ein Vorgarten, in dem nicht Bier oder Grillwaren oder Frühstück angeboten wird. So profitiert jeder. Statistisch gesehen verdient jeder Einwohner in Wacken über 3000€ in den Tagen des Festivals. Aber auch in den Tagen davor und danach sind unendlich viele freiwillige Einwohner mit von der Partie...als Ordner aber auch zu den Aufräumarbeiten. Fazit: Ohne diese Akzeptanz wäre das alljährliche Spektakel nicht möglich.
Für uns begann der erste Tag ( Mittwoch 29.7 ) allerdings mit einer Enttäuschung. Hatten wir uns im Vorfeld doch auf die AC/DC Coverband "Bon Scott" sowie im Anschluß "Onkel Tom" und "Mambo Kurt" gefreut. Alle Gigs fanden auf der W.E.T Stage im Zelt statt. Leider machte die WET Stage ihrem Namen alle Ehre, war doch der Bereich vor dem Zelt wieder einmal von Wasser aus den angrenzenden sanitären Anlagen überschwemmt. Damit nicht genug, standen die Fans vor dem Zelt Schlange. Ein Durchkommen völlig unmöglich. Und somit viel das Vorhaben des Mitfeierns buchstäblich ins Wasser. SCHADE!!!!! Vielleicht eine Anregung an die Veranstalter im kommenden Jahr die Bühne ins Freie auszulagern?!?!?! Aber kein Problem....ein richtiger Metalhead lässt sich davon nicht unter kriegen...also ab in den W:O:A Biergarten und den Abend mit einer Flasche Jack Daniels & Cola & Eis ausklingen lassen!!
Es ist Donnerstag. Die interne Running Order steht! Für uns heißt es Tagesprogramm vor der Black Stage. Um 16:00 Uhr starten Skyline & special guests. Hier schwappt ein Hauch Nostalgie rüber. Spielten Skyline ( Band von Thomas Jensen W:O:A Veranstalter ) doch schon auf dem ersten W:O:A vor 20 Jahren. Und so ließ es Thomas sich nicht nehmen selber noch einmal Hand an den Bass zu legen. Als special guest enterte Doro Pesch die Bühne und stellte die offizielle Wackenhymne " we are the metalheadz" vor. Aber auch Onlel Tom mit dem Song "auf nach Wacken", ließ das Publikum aufs Äußerste mitbangen. Alles in Allem ein gelungener Auftakt für das 20 jährige Spektakel.
Um 17:00 betritt die Münchner Band Schandmaul die Bühne. Seit 10 Jahren sind die Jungs im Geschäft und verstehen es immer wieder mit ihrem mitteralterlichen Folk-Rock dem Publikum ordentlich einzuheizen. Ein Höhepunkt der Band ist die Nominierung für einen Echopreis in diesem Jahr. Da soll noch Einer sagen Metal hat keine Chancen oder Zukunft...Hut ab / standing ovations Schandmaul!!!!
Nach dem Gig beschließen wir uns "den W" / Stefan Weidner ex. Böser Onkel nur anzuhören und einen Abstecher auf das Gelände zu unternehmen. Uns zieht das neue Event "die Wackinger" an. Auf einem extra gelegenen Areal wird dem Besucher alles rund um das Mittelalter und die Wickinger geboten. Neben kulinarischen Besonderheiten kann sich jeder auch im Axt oder Speerwurf üben. Auch die Handwerkskunst ist vertreten. Schmuck, Waffen, Rüstungen, Bekleidung, Trinkhörner...wer entsprechendes sucht wird hier schnell fündig. Auf einem extra eingerichteten Bereich werden für Interessierte Schaukämpfe geboten und entsprechend kommentiert und erklärt. Ein rund Um gelungenes Experiment, welches hoffentlich im kommenden Jahr eine Wiederholung findet.
Ein Blick auf die Uhr sagt uns es ist Zeit wieder die Festivalarea zu entern. Bereits am Morgen konnten wir einen Vorgeschmack auf den Abend wahrnehmen, nämlich den Soundcheck von Rock`n Rolf oder auch Rolf Kasparek oder noch besser gesagt " Running Wild". Und nun sollte es so weit sein. Aber mit einem faden Beigeschmack. Nein nicht der Musik wegen, sondern es startet der letzte Gig der Kultband "Running Wild". Nach dieser Night to Remember löst sich die Band um Bandleader Rolf Kasparek auf. Aber für ihr letztes Konzert wurde alles gegeben. Als Intro gastierten die Schauspieler des Hamburg Dungeon auf der Bühne... und dann endlich "Running Wild" fangen an...Klassiker wie Port Royal, Bad to the bone, riding the storm und Soulless werden dem Publikum um die Ohren "gehauen" gefolgt von black hand in, Purgatory oder auch branded and exile oder raise your fist ( ein Song der live Seltenheitswert hat ). Nach zwei Stunden beendet Rolf seinen Gig mit Conquistadores und under jolly Roger. Gigantisch!!!!!
Weniger schön war allerdings das der "Wacken Gott" kein Einsehen mit dem Wetter hatte. Es begann schon während "Running Wild" mehr als ausgiebig zu regnen, sodass wir bis auf die Haut durchnässt erst einmal das Pressezelt aufsuchen, um uns ein Wenig aufzuwärmen, denn die Zeit ist knapp, denn das nächste Highlight steht mit "Heaven& Hell" an. Na klar niemand anderes als Ronny James Dio der Godfather des Metalgesangs sucht uns Heim!!!!!
Also nichts wie schnell wieder raus aufs Gelände...diesmal vor die True Metal Stage. Nass hin oder her....eine Enttäuschung gab es nicht. Songs wie Mob rules, children of the sea, heaven & hell oder neon nights entschädigen für Alles.
Show vorbei..was tun??? No problem...wieder im Backstage aufwärmen, Leute treffen, fachsimpeln und vor dem zur Ruhe begeben ein paar Drinks mit Onkel Tom Angelripper.....na da war gutes Schlafen angesagt!!!!!!
Oh oh...die restliche Nacht verhieß nichts Gutes. Auch wenn das Hochprozentige einen guten Schlaf verspricht, der Regen der in dieser Nacht vom Himmel fällt war nicht zu überhören und verheisst für den kommenden Tag nichts Gutes. Wie sollte es auch anders sein...
Freitag 31.7.09.....es ist frisch, stürmisch, das Gelände ist matschig und aufgeweicht. Zu allem Übel hat es Freunden auf dem Campingplatz den Pavillon zerrissen und fortgeweht...das vermiest die Stimmung????? Nein, denn es steht ein weiterer grandioser musikalischer Tag ins Haus. Unter anderem mit der Legende" UFO" . Wir sind pünklich zu "Gamma Ray " wieder zur Stelle. Leider sahen wir uns gezwungen einen Abstecher in den Ort zu wagen, um eine Stange Zigaretten zu organisieren. An dieser Stelle eine große Bitte an die Veranstalter...was mit American Spirit geboten wird ist furchtbar!!!! Absolut nicht rauchbar, vom Geschmack-----ab hier zensiert------und fällt unter die Genfer Konventionen!!!!!!! Bitte versucht im kommenden Jahr wieder eine renomierte Firma mit an den Start zu bringen!!!!!!
Aber zurück zur Musik. Schade das Kai Hansen so früh auf der Bühne stand. Jemand der sein Handwerk in Punkto Metal wie kein Anderer versteht. Für mich der Auftakt für den Freitag Nachmittag. Neben Kultsongs von Gamma Ray durften auch Klassiker von "Helloween" nicht fehlen. Allen voran ride the sky, gorgar oder auch future world.
Obwohl "Walls of Jericho" und "Nevermore" nun auf dem Programm standen, entschlossen wir uns den längst anstehenden Gang über den Metalmarkt in Angriff zu nehmen. Die Wunscheinkaufsliste der daheim Gebliebenen musste wohl oder übel ja auch abgearbeitet werden. Der Rundgang über den Metalmarkt war durchaus positiv. In diesem Jahr wurde das Areal verbreitert. Die Durchgänge waren breiter und Alles war übersichtlicher. Und natürlich das Angebot reichhaltig. Aber wie Immer hieß es erst schauen dann kaufen. Das super breit gefächerte Angebot bot aber auch die entsprechenden Preisspannen. Lagen diese doch bis zu 10€ Unterschied. Schnellentschlossene Käufer konnten demnach stark gefrustet von Dannen ziehen, wenn sie nicht warten konnten um die Preise zu vergleichen.
Um 19:15 standen wir wieder bereit um "Hammerfall" ein Ohr zu leihen. Die sympathischen Jungs lieferten auch erwartungsgemäß eine hervorragende Show. Man muss sagen Gott sei Dank ohne ein Drumset, welches wie im Circus Roncalli in allen Farben leuchtet und soviele Bassdrums beinhaltet wie Hammerfall Buchstaben hat. Hoffentlich bleibt dies auch so. Denn eine derartige Show war doch peinlich. Es geht doch ohne, wie uns der diesjährige Wackengig eindrucksvoll bewieß.
Für mich ging nunmehr der Abend in die entscheidende Phase. Meine unangefochtenen Favoriten, seit ich 15 Jahre war, standen auf dem Programm....."guten Abend we are Motörhead and we play rock`n roll"...na klar Lemmy himself war angesagt. Und dies mit einer sagenhaften mit Spielfreude behafteten Show. Den Opener machte iron fist, gefolgt von stay clean. Ein einwandfreier Sound machte dieses Spektakel perfekt. Nach dem zehnten Song in the name of tragedy verausgabte sich Mikkey Dee in einem grandiosen Drumsolo. Das reguläre Setende wurde von going to brazil und killed by death beschlossen, bevor die beiden Zugaben ace of spades und overkill die Setlist abrundeten.
Nunmehr nach 23:00 hieß es erstmal die Beine hochlegen, etwas trinken und feste Nahrung zu sich nehmen. Leider hieß dies auch " In Flames" nur aus dem Backstagebereich zu hören und zwischendurch von der Gangway zum Gelände den Einen und Anderen Blick zu riskieren. Eine durchaus gelungene Show, die es an Feuer nicht mangeln ließ. Grandios und wie immer sehens und hörenswert. Der Abschluß des Gigs war gekrönt durch ein gigantisches Feuerwerk.
Leider muss man derweilen hier und da Abstriche machen, folgten an diesem Abend noch zwei Bands die wir uns mit ins Programm aufgenommen hatten. Zum Einen die deutsche Metallegende "Doro" und zum Abschluß an diesem Tag "Amon Amarth". Um 00:45 startete erst einmal "Doro". Souverän wie immer. Gleich als Opener startete Sie mit "für immer". Eine große Überraschung war, das Doro durchweg alte "Warlock" Klassiker zum Besten gab. Hier zu erwähnen; I rule the ruins, burning the withes, true as steel, the night of the warlock oder auch all we are. Als special guest teilte Sabina Classen mit Doro die Bühne.
Nach dem Ende von " Doro" blieb genau eine viertel Stunde Zeit um den Schauplatz zu wechseln. Pünklich um 3:00 früh starteten "Amon Amarth". Doch die Freude auf den Auftritt von "Amon Amarth" wurde schnell gedämpft. Ein mehr als schlechter Sound, in dem die Musik buchstäblich unter ging und der Gesang komplett geschluckt wurde, veranlasste uns in der Hälfte des Gigs doch den Weg Richtung Schlafplatz einzuschlagen.
Samstag 01.08.09 der fünfte Tag in Wacken bricht an. Ein wenig wehmütig blickt man zurück. Ist man doch eigentlich gerade erst angekommen. Die zurückliegenden Tage sind wie im Fluge vergangen.... Die Nacht war wie immer zu kurz. Aber der eine und andere starke Kaffee bringt einen wieder auf die Beine. Und somit konnten wir pünktlich um 13:00 das 25 jährige Bühnenjubiläum von " Rage" mitfeiern. "Rage" verstanden es zu früher Stunde den Fans ordentlich einzuheizen. Hatte man doch hochkarätige Gäste mit auf der Bühne. Mit von der Partie Hansi Kürsch ( Blind Guardian ) Schmier ( Destruction ) oder auch Eric Hecht ( Subway to Sally ).
Der nächste Act an diesem Tag sind "Testament". Mit großer Spannung haben wir diesen Gig erwartet. Aber von den doch nicht unerheblichen Krankheiten im Bereich der Crew war nichts zu spüren. "Testament" lieferten einen einwandfreien Gig. Eine Stunde Spielzeit, die zu schnell verlief.
Aber viel Zeit zum Luft holen blieb nicht. Steuerten wir doch nahtlos dem Gig von "Heaven shall Burn" entgegen. Die versammelten Metalhedaz schienen nicht zu bremsen. Ein Moshpit jagte den anderen. Und Sänger Markus Bischoff hatte die Massen in der Hand, verstand er es doch diese immer aufs Neue anzuheizen.
Und wieder keine Pause zum Durchatmen. Um 18:00 gab Axel Rudi Pell sein Stelldichein. Im vergangenen Jahr viel dieser Gig leider aus, da Sänger Johnny Gioeli beruflich verhindert war. Aber pünktlich zum Wackenjubiläum wurde der Gig in die Tat umgesetzt. Und die Band gab Alles. Ein Genuss für die Freunde des melodic Metal. Axel virtuos an der Gitarre. Wieder einmal konnte er nicht sein großes Vorbild Ritchie Blackmore verbergen. Die Parallelen sind zu groß. Hier ist ein Meister der sechs Saiten am Werk. Wir konnten die Show mit unseren Freunden von "Custard" genießen.
Langsam neigt sich für uns das 20 jährige W:O:A dem Ende entgegen. In den vergangenen Jahren hat es sich für uns als vorteilhaft erwiesen noch in der Nacht unsere Zelte abzubrechen und Richtung Heimat zu reisen. So umgeht man dem Abreisestress und auch den Abreisestaus. Den Ausklang bildet für uns demnach der Gig von "In Extremo". Wie in all den vergangenen Jahren ist dieser geprägt von einschlägigen Bässen, Gänsehaut verbreitenden Dudelsacklängen und einer gigantischen pyrotechnischen Show.
Fazit:
Das 20 jährige Wacken Open Air ist vorbei. Bis auf wenige Ausnahmen hat sich das Wetter gut gehalten. Leider gab es im Bezug auf das Billing kurzfristige Absagen. Hier sind Anthrax, Thin Lizzy und Kampfar zu nennen. Mit JBO wurde zumindest ein Ersatz gefunden.
Die Bandauswahl schlug eine Bandbreite quer durch die Geschichte des Festivals. Allerdings hätte es dem Jubiläum gut getan einen Headliner wie im Jahr 2008 auf seinen Fahnen zu haben. Iron Maiden wäre der würdige Hauptact für einen solchen Geburtstag gewesen.
Aber freuen wir uns auf 2010 wenn es wieder heißt " faster harder louder " " see you in Wacken---rain or shine"

Wacken Open air or also briefly W:O:A, for 20 years the metal event in Germany. Thus we also are already for eleven years a member of the festival municipality and have packed in last decade once a year our camping equipment to follow the pilgrim's crowd. But at that time it was more relaxed in certain manner, nevertheless, one could arrive comfortably still on the first festival day. In the today's time one better resolves to invest one week of the summer holidays and to arrive already on Tuesday before the real festival beginning. But therefore one has bought the privilege to succumb a whole week to the atmosphere of North Germany and to sniff festival atmosphere.
"20 years louder than hell" the motto of the biggest Heavy Metal festivals of the world was therefore this year. And it did justice to his motto, nevertheless, travelled more than 70,000 fans of metalmusic in only 1800 inhabitants counting village Wacken.
Also we arrived this year again at the weekly beginning to see camping area a little from the common atmosphere of the metal family before our move in the V.I.P. And to be of use in the time to sketch a battle plan, with regard to which of the tape which should stand on our private runningorder. The offer this year more than after my taste. Nevertheless, thus presented themselves of tape like (Gamma Ray not to forget Nevermore, Hammerfall, Motörhead, Heaven & Hell, Doro, in Flames, Amon Amarth, Testament, Axel Rudi Pell and Running Wild and many more) proverbially the handle in the hand. In other words... it long days promised to become on the festival area.
However, before we could rush calmly in the festival tumult to indulge in a musical great pleasure after the other, we had to exchange on Wednesday still the job at highly summery temperatures our accreditations for the backstage passes what was at more than highly summery temperatures a hard way which ran, however, with the suitable stock in well cooled beer cans nevertheless relaxing. Thus it is to be seen amusing like themselves the whole village actively in the festival involved over and over again. No front garden in which beer or grill goods or breakfast is not offered. Thus everybody profits. Statistically seen every inhabitant earns in Wacken more than 3000€ during the days of the festival. But also during the days before it and then many voluntary inhabitants with from the part... are endlessly as a folder, however, also for the clearing work. Result: Without this acceptance the yearly spectacle would not be possible.
However, for us the first day (Wednesday 29.7) began with a disappointment. If we had been glad in the approach, nevertheless, about the AC / DC cover band "Bon Scott" as well as in the connection "Uncle Tom" and "Mambo Kurt". All gigs took place on the W.E.T Stage in the tent. Unfortunately, all honour made the WET Stage to her name, nevertheless, the area was flooded before the tent once again by water from the adjoining sanitary arrangements. With it not enough, the fans stood before the tent queue. Coming through absolutely impossibly. And therefore a lot the plan of the cocelebration literally in the water. PITY!!!!! Maybe to evacuate a suggestion to the organizers next year the stage outside?!?!?! But no problem.... a right Metalhead can be got by it not under... from in the W:O:A beer garden and the evening with a bottle Jack Daniels & coke & ice allow to end!!
It is Thursday. The internal Running order stands! For us one says daily schedule before the Black Stage. At 16:00 o'clock begin skyline & special guests. Here a breath nostalgia sloshes over here. Played Skyline (Band of Thomas Jensen W:O:A organisator), nevertheless, already on the first W:O:A 20 years ago. And thus it did not let take Thomas to lay once again hand to the bassguitar. As special guest Doro Pesch boarded the stage and introduced the official Wackenanthem "we are the metalheadz". But also Onlel Tom with the song "on to Wacken", left the audience on the extreme headbanging. Everything in all a successful prelude for the 20-year-old spectacle.
Around 17:00 the Munich band "Schandmaul" enters the stage. For 10 years the boys are in business and know to put on it over and over again with their middle age folk rock to the audience substantially. A climax the volume is the nomination for an echo price this year. There should say one more Metal has no chances or future... Care from / standing ovations "Schandmaul"!!!!
After the gig we decide to us "W" / Stefan Weidner ex. "Böser Onkel" only to listen and to undertake an excursion on the area. The new event "die Wackinger" draws us. On a specially situated area everything is offered to the visitor all around the Middle Ages and the Wickinger. Beside culinary specific features everybody can also practice itself in the ax or spear throw. Also the craft art is represented. Jewellery, weapons, armaments, clothing, drinking horns... who the corresponding looks makes a find here fast. In a specially furnished area are offered for interested show fights and are commented accordingly and explained. Around around the successful experiment which finds a repetition hopefully next year.
A look at the clock says us it time is to be boarded again the festival area. Already in the morning we could perceive a foretaste for the evening, namely the sound check of Rock `n Rolf or also Rolf Kasparek or even better said" Running Wild". And now it should be so far. But with a tasteless flavour. Not the music because of, but it the last gig the cult tape begins "Running Wild". After this Night to Remember the band resolves around band leader Rolf Kasparek. But for her last concert everything was given. As an Intro guested the actors of Hamburg Dungeon on the stage... and then, finally, "Running Wild" start... Classics like port royal, bad to the bone, riding the storm and Soulless are "hit" to the audience around the ears followed from black hand in, Purgatory or also branded and exile or raise your fist (a song the live rarity value has). After two hours Rolf finishes his gig with Conquistadores and under jolly Roger. Huge!!!!!
However, less nicely this of the "Wacken God "was"no seeing with the weather had. It already started to rain during "Running Wild" more than extensively, so that we visit first of all the press tent up to the skin soaked to warm up a little ourselves, because the time is scarce, because the next highlight stands in a queue with "Heaven & Hell". Clearly nobody else than Ronny James Dio of the Godfather of the mead alga song strikes us!!!!!
So nothing as fast again out on the area... this time before the True Metal Stage. Wet there or here.... a disappointment there was not. Songs like mob rules, children of the sea, heaven & brightly or neon nights compensate for everything.
Show act past. what??? No problem... again in the backstage area warm up, people hitspeaking with musicans and friends and before him there retire a few drinks with uncle Tom Angelripper..... there good sleeping was announced!!!!!!
Oh oh... the remaining night promised nothing good. Even if the highly concentrated promises a good sleep, the rain at this night of the sky falls was not to be failed to hear and promises for the next day nothing good. How it should be also different...
Friday 31.7.09..... it is fresh, stormy, the area is mushy and has made soft. To all evil it has tore to friends on the camping place the pavilion and blown away... this spoils the mood????? No, because it another more magnificently musical day stands in the house., Among the rest, with the laying "UFO". We are punctually "to Gamma Ray" again. Unfortunately, we saw to venture constrainedly on an excursion in the place to organise a pole cigarettes. At this point a big request to the organizers... what with American Spirit is offered is dreadful!!!! Not at all smokeable, from the taste-----from here censors------and falls under the Genevan conventions!!!!!!! Please, organise a goodcigarette company with to the start tries to bring next year again!!!!!!
But back to the music. Damage Kai Hansen so early on the stage stood. Somebody understands his craft in Metal like no other him. For me the prelude for Friday afternoon. Beside cult songs of Gamma Ray classics of "Helloween" might not be also absent. To all at the head ride the sky, gorgar or also future world.
Although "Walls of Jericho" and "Nevermore" stood now on the programme, we resolved to us to tackle him long ago upcoming way about the metalmarket. The desirable purchase list of the remaining at home had to be also processed willy nilly. The walk about the metalmarket was absolutely positive. This year the area was widened. The passageways were broader and everything was more clear. And of course the offer extensively. But how Always one said only look then shop. However, the really broadly diversified offer also offered the suitable prize spans. Situations this, nevertheless, up to 10€ of difference. Therefore, quick-determined buyers could move very frustrated if they could not wait around the prices to compare.
Around 19:15 we were again ready around "Hammerfall" an ear to lend. The likeable boys also delivered as expected an excellent show. Now for me the evening went to the determining phase. My undisputed favorites, since I was 15 years, stood on the programme..... "guten Abend we are Motörhead and we play rock` n roll"... clearly Lemmy himself was announced. And this with incredible afflicted with play joy a show. The Opener made iron fist, followed from stay clean. A flawless sound made this spectacle perfect. After the tenth song in the name of tragedy Mickey Dee overexerted himself in a magnificent Drumsolo. The regular set end was decided from going to brazil and killed by death, before both additions ace of spades and overkill the set cunning rounded.
Now after 23:00 one said first put the legs up, something drink and take firm food to ourself. To one the German metallegend "Doro" and for the end on this day "Amon Amarth". Around 00:45 began first of all "Doro". Masterfully, as usual. As soon as Opener began you with "für immer". The night was too short, as usual. But one and other strong coffee revives again. And therefore we could cocelebrate on time around 13:00 the 25-year-old stage jubilee of "rage". It knew to put on "rage" early in the day to the fans substantially. If one had, nevertheless, high-carat guests with on the stage. With from the part of Hansi Kürsch (Blind Guardian) Schmier (Destruction) or also Eric Hecht (Subway to Sally).
The next Act on this day are " Testament". With big tension we have expected this gig. But from the nevertheless not unimportant illnesses in the area of the crew nothing was to be felt. "Testament" delivered a flawless gig. One-hour playing time which ran too fast.
But a lot of time to the air get did not remain. If we steered, nevertheless, seemlessly to the gig of "Heaven shall Burn" against. The gathered Metalhedaz did not seem to brake. And again no break for breathing deeply. Around 18:00 Axel Rudi Pell gave his rendezvous. Last year a lot this gig, unfortunately, from, because singer Johnny Gioeli was prevented professionally. But on time to the Wacken birthday the gig was put into action. And the tape gave everything. A pleasure for the friends melodic Metal. Axel like a virtuoso in the guitar. Once again he could not hide his big model Ritchie Blackmore. The parallels are too big. Here a master of six strings is at work. We could enjoy the show with our friends of "Custard".
Slowly the 20-year-old W:O:A bends for us to the end. During the past years it has proved to break off itself for us as advantageous to travel still at night our tents and in the direction of native country. Thus one handles to the departure stress and also the departure traffic jam. Therefore, the gig of "In Extremo" forms for us the conclusion. As during all past years this is stamped by appropriate basses, creeps to spreading bagpipes lengths and a huge pyrotechnicshow.

The 20-year-old Wacken Open air is over. Up to few exceptions the weather has kept itself good. Unfortunately, there were concerning the Billing short-term refusals. Here are Anthrax to call Thin Lizzy and Kampfar. With JBO at least a substitute was found.
The tape choice hit a range straight through the history of the festival. Indeed, it would have been good for the jubilee to have a Headliner like in 2008 on his flags. Iron Maiden would have been the worthy main act for such a birthday.
At the end I say sorry to all the great bands played at W:O:A and we never wrote above. Like ( Lacuna Coil, Endsatillew, Walls of Jericho, Airborne, Bullet for my Valentine, Dragonforce, Einherjer, Mashine Head ) and many more. But time is to short each year...and one must choise each year again......
However, we are glad about 2010 if one says "faster harder louder" "see you in Wacken---rain or shine" again
